One of the most anticipated consoles that are released this December 2020 is the Xbox Series X and PS5. These two console releases are considered as the Console Wars 2020 [Xbox Series X VS PS5] among the fans.
To be honest both the consoles looks stunning in the design part and in the specification sheet. After seeing the spec sheet, I was like “Wow this could be the next level consoles”. To be frank, am not a gaming person, but still I have always interested in owning one just to experience how it is.
Though it’s going to be my first time, I’ve yet to decide which side should I be. So before I start, I would like to tell you that these are my first impressions to these Consoles and Console wars. Let’s also see the gameplays and exclusives that have been released so far.
Alright, let’s get into the Console Wars 2020 [Xbox Series X VS PS5].
Console Wars 2020 [Xbox Series X VS PS5]
Starting off with the console’s design. As I mentioned above, I was impressed with the designs of both Xbox series X and the Ps5, Both looks absolutely stunning as a console.
PlayStation 5 (PS5)
Let’s actually start with the Playstation 5 (PS5). The PS5 was showcased with a mix of black and white pattern which looks sleek and new for a Playstation. Sony’s blue accent over the edges of the console makes it feels like a futuristic device. The console does feature a USB type C port and also a USB – A port at the front.
Coming up next to the Dual-sense controller, which also features a white colour scheme with some black and blue accents. Sony has added that this controller would come with the haptic feedback which allows the users to experience the feel of the road in a racing game and the triggers will offer variable resistance based on the activity being performed in a game. Sound’s great right?. For me, it’s a yes.
The Dual-sense controller has a rechargeable battery as the previous Dual – Shock controller which is an added advantage. Dual- sense controller has a built-in microphone, allowing you to communicate with friends more easily which feels like a much-needed upgrade for now when users play a battle royal games or a Multi-player game.
XBOX Series X
The Xbox series X has a box-shaped design which is totally different from what we saw in the previous Xbox consoles. The console can be placed both vertically and horizontally on your desk. The Xbox series X has its indented cooling vents on the top and the Xbox logo sits small on the top left-hand corner of the console.
Unlike Ps5, Xbox has released only one variant which has a disc drive which is placed vertically on the left-hand side. The Xbox series X features three USB 3.2 ports, One networking port, an expanded storage slot and an HDMI 2.1 port.
The Xbox Series X has the following ports: HDMI 2.1 output port, three USB 3.2 ports, one networking port, an expanded storage slot and a power input port.
The controller has been made more accessible to everyone by Microsoft by redesigning its size and shape. Microsoft has added a dedicated share button to the controller in order to share the gameplay’s (“Live”) or with your friends over the internet. Other than that I was expecting some rechargeable batteries this time for the controllers, but still, Microsoft chose to stick with the AAA batteries.
XBOX series X Vs PS5 Specifications
Both the consoles support 4k gaming up to 120 fps (frames per second) with 60 fps as the minimum target. Support for 8k gaming is also present on both the consoles. On paper, Xbox Series X and PS5 have similar specifications and the Xbox series X looks powerful than the PS5.
Both the consoles SSD’s are super fast and the consoles have a Powerful processor. Since both the consoles come with an inbuilt SSD’s games on these consoles should load much faster than before. Particularly the Ps5 has the upper hand in the SSD part, as sony claims it’s SSD’s could deliver up to 9GB/second in its new console. Note that the solid-state drive may also have a big effect on game performance.
Moving on to the Graphics, Xbox series X seems to deliver slightly better performance and graphics than the Ps5. The GPU processing power for the sony’s PlayStation 5 is said to be 10.3 Teraflops whereas for the Xbox series X it is said to be 12 Teraflops. Both the consoles features 16GB GDDR6 RAM.
PS5 and the Xbox series X has the same CPU with an 8-core 3.5 GHz AMD zen 2 processor. Xbox series X has the external storage option whereas Sony has not yet announced anything on the external drives.

Point’s to be Noted
- Everyone here talks about the exclusives. So, should I… Microsoft and Sony have recently been unveiling their exclusive gameplay and trailers which I consider to be equally good. If you are a person who is expecting some exclusive games with killer graphics then you should consider opting-in for PS5 because some of the Xbox exclusives are not coming out until 2021.
- Another major point to be noted is the Backward compatibility. Xbox offers more backward compatibility than the PS5 (i.e) a newer console can play games which are originally designed for an older console. But to be more particular, Backwards Compatibility is different from remasters and remakes.
- Sony has been releasing the exclusive titles and it is said that PS4 games alone could be compatible with the new PS5.
- Both the Consoles supports 8k gaming and supports a frame rate of up to 120fps, but right now there are few games which take advantage of these frame rate. So choose your console wisely.
- The PS5 has a clear advantage over the Xbox series X in the Virtual reality (VR) which Microsoft has no plans until now. VR is considered to be the next level of gaming.
- PlayStation 5 has 2 versions, one is the digital version and a normal version (Which comes with a CD drive), so you have the power to choose from two consoles. Coming to the Xbox, so far they have released just the series X version and there are some rumours about the Series ‘S’ version which is yet to be showcased if there is one.
Conclusion
These are my views on the Xbox series X and PS5 as a first-timer. As of now, we could just talk about the consoles based on their specifications. We are yet to see it’s ability and performance. Let’s see which console wins the Console Wars 2020 [Xbox Series X VS PS5]. The real performance and ability of a console can only be said when these two consoles hit the market. Microsoft has announced that their console would release in the month of November whereas there is no information regarding the release date on the PlayStation 5.
I’m bit confused when it comes to choosing one from these two Consoles. Both are equally hyped and the expectations are high on both sides. So, If you are planning to buy a new one, choose wisely. I’ll also post a separate article on the games in detail.
